Born from the friendship between two eclectic concert artists and professors at the "Luigi Cherubini" Conservatory in Florence, PANAMERICANA was founded in 2024. This cello and guitar duo takes its name from the famous highway stretching approximately 45,000 kilometers along the Pacific coast, linking Alaska to Chile and connecting the North, Central, and South American continents.
Both performers boast decades of experience as soloists, chamber musicians, and educators. They have:
Performed on prestigious stages worldwide.
Recorded for leading record labels.
Served frequently as jury members for national and international competitions.
The duo’s performances lead the audience on a fascinating journey through Latin American culture, exploring a musical genre that is both captivating and seductive, deeply rooted in ancient folk traditions.
Their diverse repertoire includes masterpieces by Piazzolla, Villa-Lobos, Timpanaro, Machado, and De Falla. Notably, they are the only ensemble to perform José Bragato’s Milontan in its specific version for cello and guitar, alongside several contemporary works dedicated to them by modern composers.
In November 2024, Duo Panamericana embarked on a high-profile tour as part of the Cherubini Conservatory’s internationalization project. Highlights included performances at:
The Shanghai Conservatory of Music.
The Italian Cultural Institute in Beijing.
The Confucius Institute in Florence and the city of Arezzo, marking the project's successful conclusion.
Building on widespread acclaim from both audiences and critics, the duo headlined the Autumn 2025 season with a prestigious concert organized by the Italian Society of Contemporary Music (SIMC). For this special occasion, the Society commissioned new works from renowned Italian composers, including:
Carlo Mastropietro, Valeriano Borsotti, Antonello Salandrini, Francesco Gentile, Filippo Lepre, Luca Antignani, Christina Paterniti, Vincenzo Saldarelli, Giovanni Traversi, and Giorgio Francesco Dalla Villa.
All pieces on the program were presented as world premieres, further cementing the duo's role as a leading force in contemporary repertoire.
Giorgio Albiani graduated with honors (10 e lode) from the Liceo Musicale Pareggiato in Modena under the guidance of Vincenzo Saldarelli and Florindo Baldissera. He continued his studies with Maestro Alberto Ponce at the École Normale de Musique in Paris, where he was awarded First Prize with distinction in both the Concours d'Exécution and the Concours de Concertisme.

As the arranger and guitarist for the vocal trio I Viulàn, he was awarded the EMI Silver Disc for ethnomusicological research. In 2005, I Viulàn became the first Italian ensemble to reach the podium at the prestigious UNESCO "Sharq Taronalari" Competition in Samarkand, securing 2nd prize among over forty groups from around the globe. They have performed at major international festivals, including the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the Dolomiti Festival, and the Fès Festival of World Sacred Music, with recordings for Warner Bros, EMI, and the BBC.
Giorgio Albiani serves as the Artistic Director of the Iubal Association and the DIMA International Music Academy, a cultural hub based at the Birthplace of Petrarch in Arezzo and the "Don L.
